EDWARD M. GILBERT, JR.
Since 1962, Ed has written articles for the dog press in the areas of conformation, movement, judging, breed standards, and dog legislation.  Since 1963, Ed has presented all-breed seminars both nationally and internationally. Gilberts’ K-9 Seminars present two different two-day Seminars for the serious dog fancier. The first Seminar is titled Gilberts’ K-9 Structure & Movement Seminar = Enhancing Your Win Capability, From Beginning to Winning. The second Seminar is titled Gilberts’ K-9 Movement Seminar, The Dynamics of K-9 Locomotion.

Ed is co-author of The Complete Afghan Hound Howell Book House - Winner of the Dog Writers' Assoc. of America award - Honorable Mention - Best Dog Book of the Year, 1967. 

Ed is co-author of K-9 Structure & Terminology, released by Howell Book House in December 1995 and Second Edition released by Dogfolk Enterprises in Fall 2001. Third Edition released by Dogwise Publishing in February, 2010.

Ed and his wife Pat are winners of the Dog Writers' Assoc. of America Ottawa Kennel Club/Bob Cole Special Award, 2007.

Ed and his wife Pat are winners of the Dog Writers' Assoc. of America (DWAA) 2013 Annual Writing Competition. Winners of the Maxwell Best Reference Book, Encyclopedia of K-9 Terminology.

Ed is included in Who's Who in Dogs by Connie Vanacore. 
He served from 2000 to 2010 as Canine Advisor for the Center for Companion Animal Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis.

Ed and Pat are also on the President's Council of the AKC Canine Health Foundation. Ed and Pat are also Founding Members of the AKC Humane Fund and they are each Lifetime Members of Take the Lead.

Ed is an approved (1969) AKC judge of Sporting, Hounds, Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, Boxers, Dobermans, Great Pyrenees, Samoyeds, and Siberian Huskies, Miscellaneous and Best in Show. He has judged specialties and all-breed shows and conducted educational programs in the United States, Australia, Canada, Finland, Israel, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, and judged in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In 1978 Ed helped organize the Los Angeles Dog Judges Educational Association (LADJEA) and has been co-chairman since its inception until it disbanded in 2003.

Ed was an Advisory Board member of the 1973 California State Assembly Animal Care and Control Task Force. In the early 1970's Ed was an officer and founding member of the California Coalition of Animals Owners. He was a founding member of the American Dog Owner's Association and was a founding member and a President 1994-1995 of the California Federation of Dog Clubs. Ed is a past delegate to the American Kennel Club and has held numerous offices in various kennel clubs and is a past 1st Vice President and Board Member of the Afghan Hound Club of America.

Professionally Ed has taught at Mount San Antonio College, Chaffey College and Cal Poly University Pomona.  In addition, he has taught at two different Fortune 500 companies.  He has developed successful training programs for the United States government, Australia, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Iran, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Netherlands and Spain.

Ed was co-editor with Pat Gilbert of Topknot News for the Afghan Hound Club of America.  They currently are co-editors of Gilberts' K-9 Seminars News and Review.

Ed is a Life Member of the Afghan Hound Club of America (AHCA),  Senior Conformation Judges Assoc.(SCJA), Dog Judges Assoc. of America (DJAA),  Take the Lead (Lifetime Member), Dog Writers Assoc. of America (DWAA), Dog Legislation Council of Canada (DLCC), President's Council  of AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF), Founding Member of AKC Humane Fund, and a member of National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA).

Ed in addition to Afghan Hounds and Salukis has owned Standard and Toy Manchester Terriers; Boxer; Smooth Dachshunds; Longhaired Dachshund; Whippet; and a Papillon.
Presenters' Experience
PATRICIA H. GILBERT

Pat's involvement with the purebred dog fancy has been since birth.  Her parents bred, showed, and hunted with AKC Wire Fox Terriers, along with Mini and Standard Poodles.  Pat was showing dogs in AKC events starting as a young child.  Pat relocated to Canada in 1984.  She continued to participate in AKC, Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), and International events as a breeder and exhibitor of champion Borzois, Salukis, and Boxers, and as an all-breed professional handler.  Pat has many BIS, BISS, and Group wins to her credit.  Pat also was a professional groomer for over 25 years.

Pat taught conformation handling for 4-H and various kennel clubs.  In 1977, she had the honor of judging the 4-H Finals at the New York State Fair.  She continues to teach junior showmanship and conformation handling.

Pat has written for the dog press since 1974. Pat and her husband Ed are winners of the Dog Writers' Assoc. of America Ottawa Kennel Club/Bob Cole Special Award, 2007. Pat served as the AKC Gazette, Afghan Hound Club of America's columnist.

Pat was also the Hound Group Director for the Los Angeles Dog Judges Educational Association (LADJEA).

Pat is an approved (2004) AKC Junior Showmanship judge. She is AKC approved (2005) for Afghan Hounds, Basset Hounds, Bloodhounds, Borzois, Dachshunds,
Ibizan Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds,  Pharaoh Hounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Salukis. Scottish Deerhounds and Whippets,  She is provisional for Non-Sporting Norwegian Lundehunds, and the Working breeds of Cane Corso and Dogue de Bordeaux.

She is a (1996) CKC Hound Group judge including Drever, Finnish Spitz, Norwegian Lundehund and Shikoku. She is also a Toy Group, all three Poodle Varieties, both American Eskimo Dogs Varieties, and both Xoloitzcuintli Varieties judge. She is on CKC permit for the Working breeds; Alaskan Malamutes, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, Akitas, Bullmastiffs, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boxers, Canadian Eskimo Dogs, Canaan Dogs, Cani Corsi, Doberman Pinschers, Entlebucher Mountain Dogs, Eurasiers, Great Danes, Greenland Dogs, Great Pyrenees, and Hovawart.

Pat has judged in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Korea.

She has done educational programs on grooming and handling in the United States, Canada, and the Republic of Korea.  She has also done presentations on Sighthounds.

Pat is conversationally multilingual in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese which is an asset to international presentations.

Pat was co-editor with Ed Gilbert of Topknot News for the Afghan Hound Club of America.  They currently are co-editors of Gilberts' K-9 Seminars News and Review.

Pat is a member of the Afghan Hound Club of America (AHCA), Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Canadian Dog Judges Assoc. (CDJA), Senior Conformation Judges Assoc.(SCJA), Dog Judges Assoc. of America (DJAA),  Take the Lead (Lifetime Member), Dog Writers Assoc. of America (DWAA), Dog Legislation Council of Canada (DLCC), President's Council  of AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF), Founding Member of AKC Humane Fund, and a member of National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA).

The combination of Ed's and Pat's backgrounds provides a unique and broad range perspective in regard to the evaluation of purebred dogs and their exhibition.
